Using a USB Microphone on your iBook

Like many Mac owners, I was excited about the introduction of the iBook. Finally, an affordable and rugged portable Macintosh. But there was something missing, something quite important... a microphone!

For some reason, Apple felt it necessary to not include either a microphone or a sound input jack on the iBook. This was especially disturbing to me, since several of my shareware programs, such as Audiocorder and MultiMode require audio input.

Shortly after the iBook was announced, Griffin Technology announced their iMic. Well, it's out now ($35) and it works great! The only glitch I have found is that if I have it plugged in while I start up, then sound output defaults to the iMic as well (it does sound output as well as input). This may be more of a MacOS issue than an iMic problem.
