Wish-List : Flash Drive Support - Mac

Would really like to be able to run the program off a flash drive. I have all my sounds on a USB Flash drive which is great, but this also allows me to work on my carts on my home machine then plug into my work machine and keep all my carts and settings, but it's a bit of a pain since I can't seem to get the carts to stay current between machines so it's all for naught.

so I guess what I'm asking is

A: is this possible and I'm just not getting it

or

B: is this something that could be added to a future version?

Thanks,

Jack

That could probably be added for a future version, let me look into it.

Thanks for the follow up. That little feature could really help me out.

Cheers,

Jack.

We're still looking into it, there are some technical issues which have yet to be sorted out. It is one of those things that is unfortunately not as simple as it sounds ;-)

I'm already doing this on both my Mac and PC. It was actually very simple to accomplish. SoundByte as an application can be copied to a pen drive, or you could simply install it on both computers.

So, how to make the sound run from usb? create a redirect in the operating system to point to the folders.

In Windows, navigate to the usb drive you want to use.
Create a folder called SoundBytePlaylists and another called SoundByteRacks.
Right click on the SoundBytePlaylists folder and select create shortcut.
Then rename it and remove the 'Shortcut to" bit.
Copy and Paste this link into My Documents.
Obviously, at this point copy the files from within the folders in My Documents to your usb drive.
Repeat this process for SoundByteRacks.
Delete the SoundByte folders in My Documents.
Open a command prompt and navigate to My Documents.
Rename both files to remove the .lnk extenstion (ren SoundBytePlaylists.lnk SoundBytePlaylists).
Repeat for SoundByteRacks.

Bingo!!! working redirection.

The process is similar in Mac OS, but you must use MV instead of REN in the command prompt.
