Playlist problems when moving line entries (2 replies)

Further to my previous bug report I was looking into the playlist problem when I found another issue which causes the program to crash.

I have a playlist opened

I then drag the top entry to the bottom and this is what results. The bottom name is replicated upwards

I then repeat the drag from top line to bottom and this is the result

And then finally this happens

There seems to be a bug in the way the list is handled when redrawn.

Regards,

I like to set the cart window to maximised inside the outer form, but if you edit a cart it instantly changes the form back from maximised. Can it be made to leave the form state unchanged. Additionally would it be possible to make Soundbyte remember the form state so that when you load it agian it comes back as you left it?

This may sound trivial, but I use Soundbyte for theatrical sound where you are working with very low light levels. Knowing where everything is laid out on the screen is very important to prevent accidentally pressing the wrong button, so anything that helps keep the layout unchanged is valuable.

Thanks,

Playlist causes crash in 3.9.6 Lite (1 reply)

I have just installed and registered Soundbyte 3.9.6 on a Windows XP Professional SP3 Dell Lattitude 630 and I have had a few problems which I would like to report.

I have created a test playlist using some of the built in windows sounds. Very simple with just a few small wav file sounds. However when I load the playlist into a cart, either by drag-drop or by using the file open button on the cart, it causes the following error message to be displayed.

"An exception of class NilObjectException was not handled. The application must shut down."

When pressing the OK button the application closes.

If I open the playlist and press the play button the playlist plays all of the sounds perfectly OK.

I can send you the playlist via email if it would help, but it just contains six of the sounds from the Windows directory such as ys.wav and newalert.wav. I have tried different wav files and this does not make a difference to the fact that it crashes.

Regards,
My solution was to create a track I called FadeOut, FadeOut is 3secs of silence. I populate 3 vertically stacked tracks in my rack with FadeOut and use red as the button background. The result with proper fade settings applied is the same as selecting fade current track. This can also be used on the PC for those that would prefer a global fade button.

I want to be able to move through them quickly and seamlessly. How are multiple racks used with the iphone APP?

As a new user, I'm still finding my way with what seems like an excellent piece of software.

My only problem is I can't figure out how to edit Ins and Outs in playlists.

Double-clicking doesn't make values editable, and I've tried with Command, Option, Control, Function, and a variety of other key combinations.

The manual doesn't offer any further suggestions, and without editing the Playlist function is hardly very useful. Any ideas?

While I'm at it, I purchased SoundByte after seeing the iSoundByte software for iPhone and iPodTouch, though I'm not entirely convinced by it yet. It does seem to drop its connection very often, and I'd like to be much more confident of its ability to maintain a connection before going live with it, which is what I had hoped to do.

Anyway, one thing at a time, I suppose. Every day a learning day.

Is there a function or option to automatically add a default set of hotkeys for carts in a rack , eg carts 1-26 auto assign to letters of alphabet a- z or Qwerty
or carts 1-10 auto assign to numbers 1thru 0 . This would save having to add hotkeys to each individual cart in a rack , if just requiring a few hot keys or only partially using a rack for a show.
Spreadsheet is a little better than clicking each cart but still clunky.

Hi,

I just purchased SoundByte today and I'm really impressed with all of the features it has, especially with the "fade current cart" hotkey (command-F) for on-the-spot fade-outs. Is it possible to have a fade-in as well, where the volume starts at whereever volume slider has been set for that cart and then goes up to its maximum volume setting? Maybe a shift-command-F hotkey? It's much easier than doing a manual fade-in with the mouse. It can also counteract accidentally triggering a manual fade, rather than using the mouse pointer to hold the volume slider to the maximum setting until the cart has completely finished playing so it doesn't fade out.

Thanks for your attention!

Hello,

I used SoundByte for the first time on-air for a television show last week. It's great software and working like a thousand dollar 360 Digicart, however...

I have noticed that there is a slight delay in rolling carts if the program is left idling for a few minutes. The delay is only lasts about half a second, but for the show it is rather critical for the carts to roll instantly on the hot key command.

I'm using a Macbook pro, loading to RAM, playing AIFF files and have all system energy saving options off .

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

I think the addition of a Master Stereo VU Meter to the SoundByte program would be an excellent way to monitor the loudness of the output of all the carts. I would like the meter built in better than a third party VU Meter running seperately.
Anyone else think this would be of use?

Would really like to be able to run the program off a flash drive. I have all my sounds on a USB Flash drive which is great, but this also allows me to work on my carts on my home machine then plug into my work machine and keep all my carts and settings, but it's a bit of a pain since I can't seem to get the carts to stay current between machines so it's all for naught.

so I guess what I'm asking is

A: is this possible and I'm just not getting it

or

B: is this something that could be added to a future version?

Thanks,

This week saw my first real use of SoundByte. The package works perfectly as expected, but I thought I would pass on some thoughts on future development.

1. Disable click on cart to play. When working in the dark using a laptop for sound effects it's easy to click by mistake. My work around was to move the mouse pointer off screen.

2. Move the fade option from preferences to each individual cart. This means that you can still have instant stopping and fading carts mixed.

3. Make the fade rate work in seconds. It's far easier to plan when to stop a cart.

4. Individually be able to select whether a cart fades in, with rate in seconds.

5. If a cart is playing, and it is stopped via a fade, have the a method of canceling the keypress and returning to the preset volume. ie, 'esc' undo's last keypress.

6. Have a feature that enables you to export a rack and it's attached sounds. ie. you would be able to archive a rack, it's associated sounds, volumes and settings. This would mean that after working on a production you could export it so that if you ever did the same production you could reuse the rack, rather than having it sit around in SoundByte for ever and ever. Also, it could be used to easily configure backup computers. I never trust just one!

I hope this is constructive feedback on what I see as a brilliant program. You wouldn't believe the amount of time I have spent moving sound between computer - CD- Minidisc.

I'm running SoundByte 3.6 on a Mac and I've lost my context menus when I right click. I can't clear carts or set colors, etc. I'm not sure what's going on, but this just started happening. I've been running this software for months without any issue. I've tried clearing the rack and even wiping it and starting with a new rack. No change. I've also tried restoring older versions of the binary and the rack from backups. That hasn't worked, either.

Any ideas?

I am new to SoundByte, and I have read the entire help document, but I can't find anything to answer these questions.

1. Can I make multiple cart selections to change colour?
2. Can I copy a single cart, or multiple carts from one rack to another? I am trying to have some identical elements (sound effects, song clips etc) on each cart and would love to avoid having to drag and drop each element over and over again.
3. SoundByte doesn't recognize files dropped from iTunes, so I findmyself using 'Show in finder' and then dragging that over to SoundByte... is there an easier way?

Thanks all, I am doing the hockey games for my son's Pee wee (11 - 12 year olds) team and am trying to the best job I can.

Cheers,
