Receiving Globe Wireless Channel Marker Idle Packets With Your Macintosh

Introduction

Globe Wireless is a provider of HF and satellite email and data services to the shipping industry. Their signals are quite commonly heard on the HF bands, as they have a global network of stations sending data around the clock on many different frequencies.

Unfortunately, the protocol they use on HF is a proprietary one for which few decoders are available. The signal uses at least two different modulations: 100 baud, 200Hz shift synchronous FSK and PSK. MultiMode OSX is capable of displaying the transmitter ID in the Globe Wireless channel marker idle signals.

Please visit Globe Wireless Decoder for full details on how this is done, by the person who determined the packet format.
