Beta Ray Sensitivity

Our detetctors that use a thin mica window (GM-10, GM-45, GM-90, and GM-180) are essentially 100% efficient at detecting any beta particle that enters the detector.

Some of the beta particles will be attenuated by the window, which is about 1.75 mg/cm2.

The graph below shows the absorption of beta particles of varying energy for a given window thickness. You can use the 2 mg/cm2 window thickness as an approximate value.
